Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I install panels?
It is a fast and easy way to make your blog amazing. Installing panels makes it so readers get to see the most important information about an organization while staying engaged with the original article.

Is panels an ad platform?
No, panels is a consumer information network. The main goal for panels is to deliver relevant information about businesses, schools, non-profits, etc. - basically, any organization - from numerous data sources in a standard, recognizeable interface.

How do Panels Ads Perform? (Panels on Ads)
It is worthwhile to note that when third ads are "panel enabled" we have seen an increase in the click through rates anywhere from 50 - 500%. In many cases click through rates may be the same but significant brand engagment/information retrieval is validated.

How do Panels perform for Publishers looking to add advertising inventory?
Panels performance varies widely depending on the type of site. For example a directory site such as a job directory site, where 10 - 20 panels might be automatically appear on a page, automatically, ready to improve the experience for the job hunter the results could be staggering. Panels not only improves the user experience and click through for the user, but could add anywhere from 25% increased ad inventory to 500% or more. And, all impressions are user initiated.

What percentage of Panels are seen by readers?
Across hundreds of blogs in our alpha testing we observed that the number of panels viewed compared to the number of pages on average is about 40% (business sites fared much higher.)
Further, about 10 - 12% of all panels delivered by our system are actually seen by readers. Why is this so high? Because panels delivers information on organizations or companies that are the subject of editorial in any form. So, if Panels is installed and a reader is reading an article that might mention, say Nokia, we automatically enable "Nokia" and the user can learn more about Nokia if they so chose. This is in deep contrast to a "keyword" being enabled in the same article with in-text advertising that might show a "Sprint" ad on the word "smartphone."

Is this like "In-text" advertising?
Panels is a little bit like others you have heard of such as Kontera and Vibrant Media in that users initiate the "panel" but that is where the similarity ends (read answer to above question.) Panels makes weblinks-defined by the editor/blogger-by automatically attaching the corresponding panel in our system. Any company or organization's real-time highlights are now at the reader's fingertips, with no effort by the publisher, reader, or even the company the panel is summarizing. Panels includes ads, sporadically, small ads into the information panels. We would never dream of just putting an ad on a keyword just for the hell of it. We have implemented OpenX inside of our panels and are able to deliver complete metrics.

Will panels hijack my links?
No, panels will put a small panels icon at the end of the hyperlink or place a double underline. The panel is only displayed when the icon is rolled over. Clicking on items within the panel will open a new window.

What information is contained in a panel?
Panels' categories are organized as tabs across the top of the panel, at the moment we have:
  * About - Basic company and contact info, URL, logo, link to RSS feed, and summary
  * Site - A full preview of the home page, stats, and other information about the actual web site/blog
  * Map - Beginning with Google Maps, and others to follow, a place for geographic data
  * News - Headlines, Blog posts, News, Press Releases, more to come including twitter support!
  * Jobs - Employment listings from providers such as monster and simplyhired
  * Financial - If a public company, real-time info and quotes appear in several sub-categories
  * Reviews - Make a review about the site and see other reviews people have made. If available reviews from yelp are imported.
  * Shop - Much more than e-commerce, very exciting capabilties hereÉ stay tuned!
  * Site Search - Check out the lower left hard corner of our panels, you can easily search just the target site right from there, with results opening up in a new window or tab.
Currently panels is focused on displaying information for organizations, including businesses, schools, non-profits, etc. Though as mentioned we can also display panels for ads, and anything that has a link.

What is required to install panels?
Panels can be installed on any website or blog platform by copying and pasting a couple lines of javascript before the tag. There is also a one-click install for TypePad users. Bloggers have a one-time install, and then readers get to continuously enjoy the extra information brought to them by panels, it is that easy,

Is there anything the reader has to configure?
No, panels will work without the reader having to do anything at all.

As a blogger, do I get paid anything?
There is currently no revenue sharing setup for bloggers as there are no ads in our blog version, though you will get paid in thanks by your happy readers!

It takes a while for the panels icons/double underlines to appear on a web page, why?
To remain as unobtrusive as possible panels waits until the entire page has loaded before activating. If there is a delay in the page loading due to a third party ad, widget or other element then this will also delay panels activating. Many browsers have a status bar that shows a page load progress. The panels icons should show up a couple seconds after the page is done loading.

Will there be an API or Developer access?
Yes, but we're nt ready just yet. Email us.
